Steampunk fables

CGSociety's Steampunk art contest winners, incl. "Steamnocchio"

There are tremendous toots of talent at CGSociety's "Steampunk: Myths & Legends" contest winners' page, with the finest of both moving and still images selected, but Fabricio Moraes's rendered image "Steamnocchio" is easily my favorite. Rarely does an image provoke such noises in my head. Not to be missed: "Alice's Adventures in Steamland", "Legend of Yamato", and "Don Quixote: Suppressor of Engines".

Steamgoth doll dancing (via boingboing)

Goth clockwork doll performance/dance

Lisa sez, "Gothla, a very cool gothic bellydance event over the weekend had this showstopper; a broken clockwork doll looking for repair/ love? I dunno but it was the only time the entire building was rapt with attention and totally still."

Superb ray-gun junk sculptures

Flickr user Tinkerbots creates and photographs beautiful raygun and robot assemblage sculptures made from techno-junk. I am SUCH a sucker for raygun sculptures. Tinkerbots's blasters drive a fishhook straight into my desiderata gland.

Ren faire steamy get-together still Feb 21st?

Okay.  Everyone knows that I'm a poor boothie at faire, but I need to know if there's still going to be a group of steamers going this Saturday.  I have my outfit (combining Steampunk and Renaissance is a task!!!) but before I throw on the full gear, I need to know if I will be seeing anyone there?

Please remember that you do not have to buy them at full price.  If you go to Fry's, you can get them at discount for 17.00 a piece as opposed to 20.00.  I know that that doesn't seem like a lot, but 3.00 is 3.00! :)

Got my googles and stuff ready.  What's the word for all of you (especially your group, </a></b></a>raymondkitten! )

Snatched from Boing Boing

Akribos XXIV DaVinci Skeleton Steampunk Watch

John Brownlee's mom gave him the Akribos XXIV DaVinci Skeleton Watch as a gift. He was thrilled, and posts his appreciation of the timepiece over at Boing Boing Gadgets. From Brownlee's post:

I hesitate to call it steampunk, through the degradation of the term by people like me, but my attempts at describing it otherwise only end up being laughably convoluted loop-de-loops around the term. It reminds me very strongly of Disneyland Paris' Space Mountain aesthetic, which is furnished after the spaceship design of Verne's De la Terre à la Lune... all burnished brass and exposed copper cogwork. But, of course, that's all very steampunk too.

Regardless, I am in love with the watch...
